GONCALVES ON LOAN

The Brazilian international Samuel Rosa Goncalves has been placed on loan to the Major League Soccer club Los Angeles Galaxy. He had been linked with some other clubs as well, but, eventually, it’s Galaxy who managed to secure his services on a temporary basis.

Samuel has performed really well for his parent club Fluminense in the last couple of seasons and he is believed to have impressed the scouts of a lot of clubs around the world. There is a good possibility that people see him playing in a really big league in about a year or so.

The talented striker who is just 22 years of age at the moment has so far made 63 league appearances for Fluminense and has found the back of the net 13 times.

Although Galaxy has already got a couple of good strikers in the form of Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane, but, neither of these two guys are young anymore and they are not as quick as they once used to be. On quite a few occasions in the last season, Galaxy had missed the presence of somebody really quick up front and that’s the main reason why they have gone for Samuel. The Brazilian youngster has got sharp reflexes and he is capable of creating regular opportunities.

Talking to the reporters about Samuel in a press conference yesterday, the Galaxy boss Bruce Arena said, “Samuel is a striker filled with potential. Our scouts had watched him play a few times in the past and they reckoned that he was the sort of guy who would be perfect for us. So, we decided to bring him in. Hopefully, he performs well and wins us some games.”

Galaxy’s first match in the next MLS season will be against Real Salt Lake on 8th of March.
